Ulstein of Norway says that Brazilian shipowning company Oceana Offshore is to build two PX105 design PSVs at its new yard in Itajai, Brazil.
The two ships are scheduled for completion in April and May 2016, and the deal includes an option for two more sister ships. The design has been adapted for the requirements of the Brazilian oil industry, to comply with Patrobras PSV 4500 tender specifications. They will be of 4,700dwt capacity, 88.9m length oa, 19m wide and have accommodation for 23 personnel. According to Ulstein they will “have a high operational window and can take on complex assignments far from shore”, featuring Ulstein’s X-bow to reduce slamming and abrupt stops caused by waves. The company adds that the hull form helps with fuel saving, safety, and crew comfort, which add up to a cost-effective vessel.
“Oceana Offshore decided to go for our proven PX105 design. Our contract with Oceana includes designs and an extended main equipment package, as well as engineering and purchase support,” said Ulstein senior business advisor Erik Andreassen.

According to Mr Andreassen, Oceana Offshore is funded by investment and engineering partners P2 Brazil and BNDES. The new Oceana Shipyard is currently under construction in Itajai in the region of Santa Catarina, where a number of yards and related businesses form a maritime cluster.
